Artist's Statement

VISION AND PROCESS

My intention is to capture and communicate contemporary realities of our conscious or unconscious awareness; to explore and display images inspired by and found within our feelings, moods, beliefs, knowledge, values, and the universe at large.
My painting process is a constant exploration of the medium and technique while searching for color, texture, transparency. I enjoy all traditional media such as ink, watercolor, acrylic and oil juxtaposed next to unconventional materials such as sand, glass, sugar, etc. I enjoy the playfulness, the spontaneity and the fluidity of paint, used within planned limits, to reveal new possibilities and an embedded significance. My painting technique seems to focus more and more on process and materiality rather than on mimicry. I am allowing the materials to create their own identity with minimal manipulation. I feel that my task is to discover and suggest unusual or new ways and manners in which the flat surface is inspired by the passage of time, seasons, processes, and ultimately emotions.
My subject matter choices generally portray an instrumentalist approach to art-making and explore the relationships between perception and reality, the role of the art and the role of the artist in the postmodern era
