Artist's Statement
I paint to express new ideas in a way other forms of communication cannot convey. Painting enables me to express my thoughts, emotions, observations, and wonders about the universe and the world in a way free from restrictions. I believe that every individual has a distinct purpose to fulfill, and I have been fortunate to discover that I can make a difference in this world by creating original art.
With practice and time, I have learned that my most successful paintings have been created when I relax and follow my intuition. In fact, I have discovered that my unsuccessful works were a result of timidness caused by a fear of failure. When painting, I consiously consider color, value, line, shape and balance of compositon, but otherwise don't begin a new painting with any expectations or knowledge of the finished product. Instead, I have learned to trust my intuition, education and past experience to create a fresh result.
Currently, I am exploring several techniques in an effort to grow as both an individual and artist. The goal of my current work is to create paintings that communicate information in a new form. The process of my paintings generally begins with outlines of shapes, usually geometric in form. Influenced by my science background, I prefer to begin with simple forms, and then like creation, with the passing of time the process of creative expression creates something new and exciting. I hope that when others view my paintings they find enjoyment and also inspiration to create and to unearth new discoveries about the world around them, and their purpose in life.
